Benefits of Touch Typing

Multi-sensory learning

Multi-sensory teaching strategies are Visual Auditory Kinesthetic and Tactile (VAKT). This allows a student to gain knowledge of the keyboard through all learning channels.

Our touch typing courses for kids help develop correct finger placement on the keyboard and therefore typing accuracy.

Advantages of your child learning touch-typing skills

In today's digital online computer using world, learning to navigate the keyboard accurately and speedily is a life-skill. It is shocking how so many schools will teach coding but not the fundamentals of typing! You wouldn't give your child a car without having them learn to drive first.

Here are a few advantages your child will gain by learning to type without looking at their fingers:

  • You are going to be more accurate than your classmates
  • You are going to save more time when touch typing, as there is far less use of the backspace bar
  • You will be able to focus on getting your thoughts down onto paper
  • You will be able to edit your work in an easier way
  • You will be able to use a laptop in exams, GCSEs and A Levels, if this is your preferred way of working (and the school are in agreement)
  • You will be able complete exams in a faster time – the average writer will write at 25-30wpm, the average touch typist will type between 40-65 wpm
  • You are going to be able to multi-task – listen to the teacher and take notes at the same time
  • You will be able to utilise this skill for A Levels and at university – typing without looking at your fingers will be magic when you have to listen in large lecture halls, type up essays and dissertations
  • You will increase your opportunity for future job prospects as you will be able to list this as a tangible skill-set – employers understand that this will equate to completing work within a fraction of the time
  • You will reduce your risk of repetitive strain injury
