What is Touch Typing For Kids?

Touch Typing For Kids have been running in-person courses for over 18 years which makes this the longest running typing course for kids in the UK!


This course is run by qualified and highly experienced Specialist Teachers, Delia and Seth Gascoigne. They have a combined teaching experience in the field of SEND, of over 50 years!

 

Their long running history of empowering children and teens to engage in the learning process involves multi-sensory techniques and lots of prizes and motivating incentives.


Parents receive face-to-face daily updates on their child’s progress.


Expert advice is individually provided, on next steps and how to help your child continue their touch-typing journey, post course.


No laptop, no problem. Laptops are provided for the duration of the course and are used by all students at home.


Delia and Seth are also Specialist Assessors and Consultants in Specific Learning Difficulties and run the well renowned Hampstead Dyslexia Clinic (est. 1984).


Touch Typing For Kids offers both 1 week intensive and weekly face-to-face courses, at our premises in Finchley and schools in and around London. 


These small group courses enable Delia and Seth to differentiate each child’s individual learning needs, whether beginner, intermediate or advanced.

What ages and abilities are our courses suitable for?

This typing course is suitable for ages 7 (Year 3) to 17 (Year 12). Typing is an empowering life-skill for all children no matter what their ability. Learning to type accurately is particularly helpful for those identified with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, hyper-mobility and processing difficulties. Typing helps children to get their ideas down in a more efficient manner, as well as with spelling, grammar, punctuation and editing skills. TTFKs courses are used as an excellent booster for those using laptops for 11 plus exams, GCSEs and A Levels. 
Touch typing for Beginners

Beginners

Beginners to touch-typing are shown how to type using colour coded keys that cover the keyboard, before ‘hunt and peck’ habits emerge. Memory techniques, using mnemonics and hands-on activities and games, are designed to consolidate keyboard knowledge. 
Touch typing for intermediate students

Intermediate

Intermediate typists can make magnificent strides, improving their speed and accuracy scores whilst working on their punctuation skills.  
Touch typing for advanced students

Advanced

Advanced students continue to master the keyboard and increase in speed and accuracy. They will also learn note-taking skills, real-time touch typing under timed conditions, dictation skills and planning strategies. 
Intensive Holiday Courses

5  x one and a half hour sessions over 5 days

This course offers children the ability to learn to type over a 5 day period during the half-terms, Christmas, Easter and summer holidays, in-person at our Finchley Central location. This is suitable for ages 7 to 17 years and all abilities are welcome.

After School Weekly Courses

After School Weekly Courses 

5 x  one and a half hour sessions over 5 weeks during term-time

This course offers children the opportunity to learn to type over a 5 week period on Wednesdays, after school in-person at our premises in Finchley Central. This can be of particular benefit for students who may require longer periods of practice time.  

Booking a Course
This was an excellent course, with very enthusiastic teachers. My 9 year old son has been recommended to learn touch typing to help him access his learning at school. By the end of the week he was touch typing 14 words per minute at 100% accuracy! I would highly recommend this course and the lovely teachers.

Couldn’t rate the Touch Typing for Kids course more highly. Have tried a number of methods for my son to learn to TT over the years and my child has always found them boring and has not engaged well as a result. He LOVED this course. To be honest the only problem was getting him to go to bed as he enjoyed practising so much!! Really, really grateful and would definitely consider doing a refresher at some point.
